Child Advocate to Retire

Jeanne Milstein has held the role for 11 years.

The state child advocate is retiring after more than 11 years.

Jeanne Milstein said on Tuesday that she will retire, effective March 1.

“It is with great pride and sadness that I announce that I will be stepping down from my position as the State’s Child Advocate,” Milstein said. “This has been my life, my passion. I am so grateful and humbled to have served the children of Connecticut.

In her role, she has also served at the chairperson of the statewide Child Fatality Review Panel, which reviews the circumstances of any death of a child placed in out-of-home care or whose death was due to unexpected or unexplained circumstances.

“Jeanne Milstein is an extraordinary public servant who brought tireless commitment, dedication and passion to her work protecting Connecticut’s children.," Gov. Dannel Malloy said. "Her efforts ensured our children had a voice and a champion at the Capitol—and she raised the standards for ensuring the care and safety of Connecticut’s youngest residents. Jeanne’s legacy at the Office of the Child Advocate is one of lasting protections for our young people, and her work will be missed.”

Milstein, a resident of West Hartford and graduate of Cornell University, served the state for 28 years through various jobs.
