Chuckles, State Groundhog, Dies

The State Groundhog's last prediction would be right.

Molly, the state’s first female groundhog prognosticator, has died.

Molly was better known as “Chuckles,” and all eyes were on her on Feb. 2, when she made her appearance at the Lutz Children’s Museum on Groundhog Day and predicted an early spring.

So, it appears she was right, unlike Punxsutawney Phil, who predicted six more weeks of winter.

Molly was the seventh Chuckles and came to the museum two years ago after she was hit by a car. All six Chuckles to come before her were male.

She suffered several serious injuries, according to the museum, and she never fully recovered.

She’s becoming a trending topic in Connecticut, with people Tweeting and posting on Facebook of her death.

The search has already begun for the next Connecticut State Groundhog.

The museum will not take a healthy animal from its natural habitat and will only accept non-releasable wildlife referred by veterinarians or licensed rehabilitation facilities.
