Cities and Towns Hold National Night Out Events

Cities and towns across Connecticut, as well as all over the nation, will heads to local parks to connect with fellow residents for National Night Out and police hope this will lead to stronger communities.

This is the 33rd National Night Out, an event celebrated in about 16,000 communities across the United States.

In Connecticut, Avon, New Britain, Hamden, New Haven, Waterbury and Windsor are just some of the towns participating.

This effort to strengthen relations between police and the communities they serve is particularly timely this year in light of heightened tension between the police and the public following several fatal shootings around the country.

In Hartford, residents will meet at the Asylum Hill Boys & Girls Club, at 170 Sigourney St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In Hamden, residents will gather at Villano Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In New London, residents will gather at Ocean Beach Park from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and enjoy a free dinner of hot dogs, French fries, soda and ice cream. Free transportation will be provided from Crystal Avenue and the intersection of Lauren Drive and Fern Street, Buses will leave for the beach at 5 p.m.
