Now that the rain has stopped, cleanup efforts and damage assessments have begun, especially in eastern Connecticut as flooded rivers and streams begin to recede after this week's storm.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell toured parts of flooded Stonington and Jewett City on Wednesday and promised to help businesses and homeowners get disaster aid.
On Thursday, many roads and schools remain closed in Stonington, where flooding forced some evacuations and largely cut off the coastal town from its neighbors.
Officials in Griswold say they narrowly saved the Jewett City sewage treatment plant from potential damage and overflow problems from the flooded Quinebaug River.
Harbor Park Restaurant in Middletown is right along the river and has been advertising its Easter Brunch for weeks. However, the restaurant is closed and the restaurant has cancelled the at least 500 people who made reservations.
