Coach Who Hosted Booze Party Canned: School

A Simsbury coach is no longer running the high school varsity lacrosse team two weeks after police busted a party where they said teens were drinking so much that one was sick.

The letter Supt. Diane Ullman sent Daniel Corcoran on Sept. 9 came two weeks after cops were called to his home just after midnight for a noise complaint, the Hartford Courant reports.

Police said they found as many as 30 minors, between ages 17 and 19, drinking at the party at Corcoran's home in Simsbury, including one 17-year-old girl was very drunk and ill.

Cops cited Corcoran and his wife, who are accused of permitting minors to possess alcohol, and notified school officials because of Corcoran’s position with the school system, police told the Courant reports.

Ullman’s letter said Corcoran’s contract was not going to be renewed but did not go into detail about why he was abruptly let go from the top position at the team in a town that was ranked one of Money Magazine's Best Places to Live in 2009

Ullman told the Courant that she had several meetings with Corcoran before sending the letter and let the board of education know about her decision, but didn’t consult the board because it would hear an appeal if Corcoran goes that route.

Corcoran declined to comment Tuesday morning, the Associated Press reports.

His supporters are seeking an explanation from school officials.
