Missing Boater's Name Released

The man who has been missing since falling off a boat in the Connecticut River on June 30 has been identified as Yuri Kirpichev, 51, of West Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Coast Guard is in charge of the recovery operations, according to the  state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection.

Kirpichev was fishing with three other people at Griswold Point, at the mouth of the Connecticut River near Long Island Sound, when he lost his fishing pole, tried getting it and fell into the water, according to officials from the Coast Guard and the DEEP.

Dispatchers received a call just after 8 p.m. on Sunday after a boat in the area found and rescued a man who said his companion was missing, according to the Old Saybrook Fire Department.

The Coast Guard, EConn Police and mutual aid from nearby towns responded to assist Old SayBrook Fire Department with the search.

A helicopter was used for about an hour on Sunday night, but fog forced the air search to cease. Visibility remains low, so crews are waiting for fog to clear before resuming the air search.

On Monday, the search continued.
