Coldest Air of the Season is Here

Near Record Cold Tightens Grip on Southern New England

Bitterly cold temperatures with a biting wind chill made the start of this weekend feel more like January than November. The high temperature in Windsor Locks was only 29º, while areas in the Litchfield Hills saw temperatures struggle out of the teens. Keep in mind the average high temperature is 48º!

Tonight is expected to be the coldest night of this unseasonably chilly weather stretch. Temperatures will bottom out in the single digits across the Litchfield Hills while mid-teens will be common in the Hartford area and also along the shoreline. A stiff breeze out of the northwest will make it feel like it's near zero with the wind chill.

Sunday morning's record low temperature is 12º set back in 1972. Many areas in Connecticut will get close to this reading.

It has been cold enough that some ski areas in Connecticut have been able to make snow. Woodbury Ski Area is already open while Ski Sundown in New Hartford expects to open on Friday according to their website.

You may be able to put away the heavy winter jackets by Monday, when temperatures in the mid 40s are expected.
