Community Continues to Rally for Marine

Music benefit was held to help Ellington Marine Greg Caron

The community is once again rallying around a hometown hero.

Dozens came out Friday night to the South United Methodist Church in Manchester for a benefit concert.

Members of the Community Choir of Manchester put on the performance for Caron's parents, friends and anyone who wanted to attend.

"To think that someone could pay that much for freedom, we need to do something to help him," choir director Cheryl Hilton said.

Ellington Marine Greg Caron was injured in Afghanistan back in November.

The 25-year-old lost parts of both his legs, a finger and suffered a broken collar bone after stepping on an IED.

Greg's father Gary, says his son has been making slow progress.

He now can use prosthetics as his recovery continues at Walter Reed.

Just last week, Greg was able to leave the hospital and greet his fellow marines as they returned home from overseas.

"This whole thing, he just keeps his head up and pushes forward," Gary Caron said. "He's got a long road ahead of him."

The family is thankful for the huge outpouring of support from the community, Caron added.
