Conard Student Approached on Way to School

Student said the people in the car asked if she wanted a ride.

West Hartford police are adding patrols in the area of Conard High School after a student reported being approached on Hooker Drive at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

The student said a man in a black Honda Accord pulled up next to her and asked her three or four times if she needed a ride.

She said “no” in a stern voice and the car left, following a gray four-door pickup. The people inside the truck never stopped or rolled down their window, the girl told police.

Dr. Peter Cummins, of Conard High School, sent home a letter saying that two men and a woman were in the car and the student immediately reported the incident. The school called police, who looked for the car, the letter said.

“As was the case this morning, we ask our students to Run, Report, and Remember if approached be a stranger,” Cummings said.

The girl told police the man had a small white fluffy dog with him.
