Conn. Student Dies in NY Thruway Crash

A Connecticut man was killed in a crash on the New York Thruway earlier this week.

Matthew Shea, 21, of Prospect, was driving in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 when he crashed around 12:15 p.m. Monday near Amsterdam, about 30 miles northwest of Albany, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that Shea's vehicle began to fishtail, then skid off the road. The vehicle overturned and landed on its roof. Shea was the only person in the vehicle.

Shea graduated from Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury in 2007, where he studied horse management.

He was attending Morrisville State College in New York, where he majored in equine science and management. He was returning to school in central New York, police said.

He was supposed to graduate in May with an associate degree and planned on buying a horse farm in South Carolina, where he wanted to teach challenged people how to ride.
