Data from the Connecticut Department of Education shows the number of threats on schools in Connecticut has been declining in recent years.
The number of threats fell to 35 in 2014-2015 from 88 in 2010-2011. The Education Department tally reflects any threat to bomb or cause damage to a school or students and staff that led to involvement of police or security personnel.
The decline bucks a national trend in which police, security consultants and others say threats to schools are increasing.
As elsewhere, the threats can lead to major classroom disruptions since police cannot ignore them even though many turn out to be hoaxes or based on misinterpretations.
