Slot machine bets and revenue fell at Connecticut's two tribal casinos in August, reverting to more typical declines after showing unusual strength in July.
Foxwoods Resort Casino reported on Tuesday that bets totaled $531.8 million, down 6 percent from August 2014. Mohegan Sun reported bets of about $638.6 million, down from $674.3 million.
Foxwoods, operated by the Mashantucket Pequots, reported revenue of $42.5 million in August, down from about $47 million.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which operates the Mohegan Sun casinos in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, reported slot revenue of nearly $52 million, a drop from $56.2 million in August 2014.
The tribes, facing intense competition in the Northeast, are seeking to open a casino in north-central Connecticut to draw gamblers from the planned MGM Resorts casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.
