More Bones Found at Construction Site

The bones may be from a 1835 burial ground.

An archaeological team found another skeleton at a construction site in New Haven Tuesday.

Construction workers uncovered skeletal remains at the work site Monday.

Crews were digging at a site at Yale-New Haven Hospital on York Street when they noticed two partial skeletons, police said.

The state has records of a burial ground at the location dating back to 1835. The site was believed to have been moved, but not all of those buried there might have been, according to State Archaeologist Nick Bellantoni.

He said nails, most likely used to hold together a coffin, were found near the remains, and that the remains were laid out in a way that fits a grave site.

The skeletons were taken to a lab for a forensic examination.
