Convicted Felon Arrested for Possessing Firearms Hits Cop's Car in Bridgeport: Police

A convicted felon was arrested in Bridgeport for possessing a firearm and hit an officer's car while trying to escape, police said.

Raul Zayas, 26, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, possession of narcotics and reckless endangerment on Monday.

Zayas was arrested on an active felony warrant for firearm-related charges that stem from a recent shooting in Bridgeport, police said.

Bridgeport Police were informed that Zayas had a gun and were able to obtain a search and seizure warrant for his 556 Capitol Avenue residence, according to law enforcement.

On Monday, police saw Zayas leaving his apartment and when they attempted to pull him over, he tried to flee but ended up intentionally hitting a police car that was positioned to prevent him from escaping, Bridgeport Police said.

When Zayas finally surrendered, police found 2.8 grams of crack-cocaine and $541 on him, police said.

Zayas bond was set at $110,000.
