Convicted Sex Offender Accused of Raping Child

Girl says Bloomfield man started assaulting her when she was 9

A convicted sex offender in Bloomfield is denying allegations that he repeatedly raped a young girl.

Robert Hopkins was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor on Monday, reports the Hartford Courant.

According to the warrant for Hopkins' arrest, an investigator with the Department of Children and Families told police that the victim accused Hopkins of raping her and doing "other sexual things" since she was 9 years old.

Hopkins denied he ever had sexual contact with the girl, but told police he has masturbated in front of her, according to the warrant.

Officers also said Hopkins failed a voluntary polygraph test in May.

It's not clear what Hopkins' relationship is to the girl, but police told the Courant he is not a stranger to the child.
