Cops Crack Down on Dangerous Trucks

"Operation Road Check" is underway on Connecticut's highways

Authorities launched a truck safety campaign on highways across Connecticut Tuesday.

State police troopers and agents from the Department of Motor Vehicles are taking part in "Operation Road Check" through Thursday.

"We got every trooper that's truck certified out there today stopping trucks, bringing them into the scale houses and doing inspections," Trooper Dave Pereira. "Broken headlights, tires, mud flaps, loose cargo, anything that can cause an accident on the highways."

Police are also checking log books to make sure truck drivers are getting the mandatory sleep required by law.

Felix Sanchez, a truck driver from New Jersey stopped as part of the inspections Tuesday, said he was aware of the crackdown before he drove through the state.

"I would rather him pull me over so I know I'm driving a safe truck, because the company, I don't know if they check it or not. At least he checked it," Sanchez said.
