Cops Target Sex Offenders in New Haven

Nine people were arrested and authorities are still looking for nearly two dozen more.

Authorities from several agencies conducted a roundup of sex offenders and others wanted on outstanding warrants in New Haven Thursday.

The operation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, New Haven Police, State Police and State Parole and Probation officers targeted 30 suspects living in the city. Several suspects were wanted on charges they failed to register as sex offenders.

Police arrested nine at various locations across New Haven, according to authorities. Two suspects fled the United States prior to Thursday, and another was found to have died, police said.

The Task Force is made up of detectives from Bridgeport, Waterbury, Milford, Hamden, and West Haven. Authorities were able to get leads on many of the other suspects who were not apprehended Thursday. The U.S. Marshals Service and New Haven Police are continuing to search for those individuals.

Police arrested the following suspects Thursday:

  • Charles Gattert, 49 - Failure to register as a sex offender
  • Cathleen Gonzalez, 22 - Second-degree sex assault, risk of injury to a minor
  • Alan Hennah, 52 - Failure to register as a sex offender
  • Terry Johnson, 43 - Failure to register as a sex offender
  • Nathaniel McDuffie, 51 - Violation of protective order
  • William Roberts, 43 - Failure to register as a sex offender
  • Jose Vega, 35 - Violation of probation
  • Tyler Nelson, 18 - Violation of probation
  • Mark Mitchell, 46 -Violation of probation
