Couple Accused of Leaving Children Unattended to Shoplift

Farmington police arrested a couple accused of shoplifting and leaving their two young children unattended as they did it.

Police arrested Kimberly Ann Lopez, 43, and Carlos Luis Lopez, 57, both of New Britain, on Saturday night after bystanders called police to report that two young children had wandered into traffic.

The couple was arrested at Sports Authority at 7:09 p.m. Police said they were shoplifting and left their 3-and-5-year-old children unattended.

Both were charged with sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, sixth-degree larceny and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Bond for Carlos Luis Lopez was set at $15,000 and bond for Kimberly Ann Lopez was set at $2,000.
Both are due in court on Aug. 13.
