Coventry Man Arrested on Further Sexual Assault Charges

A former teacher's aide and sports coach at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, who was previously arrested on sexual assault charges involving three students, was arrested again on Friday on additional sexual assault charges.

State police were dispatched at 8:30 p.m. on Friday to the Mansfield Drive-in Movie Theater at 228 Stafford Road in Mansfield Center to meet a Coventry police officer for a "wanted person relay." State police took Geoffrey Gillette, 22, of Coventry, into custody from there and charged him with two counts of second-degree sexual assault/statutory rape.

He was previously charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault/statutory rape and three counts of risk of injury to a child on Oct. 28 in reported incidents involving three students while he was working at E.O. Smith as a teacher's aid and coach.

It's unclear if the recent charges involved students from the school or are related.

Gillette was released after posting a $50,000 cash/surety bond and is due in Danielson Superior Court on Dec. 23 at 9 a.m.
