Five Drivers Hospitalized After I-395 South Crash in Norwich

A crash closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 395 in Norwich on Friday afternoon.

The accident by exit 83 occurred during heavy traffic after another crash. A tractor trailer collided with the back of a 2005 Chevy Colorado after the driver failed to slow down for the traffic ahead. The impact caused a chain reaction of collisions with three other vehicles.

While state police initially said that there were no injuries, Troop E later released a report stating that all five drivers were transported to an area hospital to be treated for possible injuries. The driver of the Chevy that the tractor trailer hit was later flown to Hartford Hospital due to a head injury.

The road reopened around 5:15 p.m. Friday.

State police continue to investigate the crash.
