Crash Closes Colony Street in Meriden

The accident happened Monday night, but had the road closed most of Tuesday morning.

Colony Road in Meriden was closed through most of the morning Tuesday after an SUV took down a utility pole and then hit a house.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday at 416 Colony Street, snapping the pole in half and bringing down power lines across the road. The driver was trapped inside for a short time, according to fire officials.

Emergency crews transported the driver to the hospital with minor injuries.

Colony Street was closed from I-691 to Britannia Street

Connecticut Light & Power crews worked through the night to repair the pole and the wires.
