Crash Involving Gas Tanker Closes Road in New Haven

A crash involving a gas tanker and a car closed Forbes Avenue in New Haven for several hours on Thursday.

According to the fire department, cars were racing in the area when one of them drove under the belly of the tanker. A small fire started and two people in the car had to be rescued.

Emergency crews were forced to close Forbes Avenue between East Street and Wheeler Street, according to a spokesperson for New Haven.

The road was closed  because crews had to offload gasoline from the truck and onto another truck. The road finally reopened at around 7:30 p.m.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has been called in to clean up after fluid from the car leaked onto the road.

The two people in the car were taken to the hospital and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
