A car crash claimed the life of a Hartford man early Sunday morning.
According to police reports, Eddie Smith, Jr., 59, of Hartford, was driving his car Northbound on Interstate 91 before 3:00 a.m. Sunday when he veered off the road, flipped the vehicle and became lodged between trees in the median. Smith was transported to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar where he was pronounced dead.
The crash shut down the interstate highway for hours in Cromwell, as investigators worked to clear the scene. Police said three passengers were in the car with Smith at the time of the accident. They were taken to Hartford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
