Crews Rescue Stranded Kayaker from Red Rock in Greenwich

The Greenwich Marine division was called out to save a stranded kayaker over the weekend.

Greenwich police said they received a call from a Good Samaritan reporting a person stranded on Red Rock. Emergency crews arriving on scene found a man standing on Red Rock and a second man in a kayak floating next to him. They reported they had been in kayaks fishing when the victim as swamped by a passing boat wake. His vessel took on too much water and sank.

The victim them swam to Red Rock and awaited help.

Police said the water in the area was too shallow for rescue boats so the second kayaker paddled his friend over. The stranded kayaker was not injured. He was transported to Grass Island and reunited with friends.

Greenwich police remind power boaters to be aware of other watercraft. They also remind all boaters to carry waterproof communication devices in case of emergency.
