Crop Loss Aid for CT Farmers

There's help for farmers whose crops were hit hard by last summer's soggy weather.

Gov. Rell said Sunday several counties in Connecticut have been granted a natural disaster designation by the federal government.  This allows farmers to apply for emergency aid to cover their crop losses.  Rell's office said severe weather between July 27th and August 12th damaged farmland in Hartford, Middlesex and Tolland counties, and in some cases reduced crop production by 30 percent.

As part of the federal designation, farmers in Fairfield, Litchfield, New London and Windham counties can also apply for aid.  The deadline to apply for the aid through the USDA's Farm Service Agency is July 13, 2009.
