DMV Cuts Wait Times, But Official Says They're Still Too Long

A year after a botched computer system overhaul, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles says it has successfully lowered wait times at its 18 branch locations.

The Day reports DMV data shows that wait times averaged an hour in June, down from two hours and 41 minutes last August.

Despite the drop, the agency's commissioner, Michael Bzdrya, said the wait time is still too long.

Officials said the department is taking a methodical, data-driven approach to improving customer service.

A survey of 1,200 patrons found that 35 percent of them could have saved 15 to 20 minutes if they took care of their needs online.

Bzdrya said the DMV is prepared to advertise its online services but needs to "find the right messaging" before investing in a campaign.
