A Norwalk man has been arrested after DNA linked him to a 2004 rape in Maryland.
On Aug. 6, 2004, a woman was raped at knifepoint in a laundry room at Grande Point Apartments in Columbia, Howard County, Maryland.
At the time, DNA evidence did not match a profile in a national database at the time. But now, six years later, police say a match to the DNA of Gary Sental Taylor, 30, was detected.
Taylor's DNA has been on file since 2008. It was collected after he was release from an 18-month sentence for a 2007 child endangerment felony conviction and was recently entered into a national database.
“This was a rare case of stranger rape in Howard County,” Police Chief William McMahon said. “We are glad that with the help of the Maryland State Police, we’ve been able to take this suspect into custody.”
Taylor was arrested last month at his job at a fitness center in Connecticut and extradited to Maryland last week. He is being held without bond.
Taylor has been charged with first- and second-degree rape.
