Danbury School Workers Raise Cancer Concerns

There have been 32 cancer cases.

Teachers and staff members of a Danbury school are asking local and state officials to review what they consider an unusually high number of cancer cases among their ranks.

Employees at Rogers Park Middle School want to know whether the building or something surrounding it might have been a factor in the 32 cancer cases they have documented in the last 10 years.

A state epidemiologist said the preliminary review shows no red flags, and that the cancers are different enough that they don't suggest a common environmental cause.

About 150 people work in the building.

The News-Times of Danbury reports that state officials toured the school last week and will advise the city about any environmental issues they find that need to be addressed.
