Ex-High School Teacher Acquitted of Sex Assault Charges

A former Danbury High School science teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student has been acquitted of all charges.

The News-Times reports that a Danbury jury found Kayla Mooney not guilty Tuesday of three counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of providing liquor to a minor.

Mooney was charged in March 2015 after an investigation into a complaint she made to school officials that she was being harassed by the boy's girlfriend.

Police say the boy told them about the sexual relationship, and they confirmed parts of his story after obtaining emails between him and Mooney.

Mooney declined to comment on the acquittal but her attorney says the jury made the right decision.
