Darien Financial Adviser Sentenced for Stealing $1.2 Million From Elderly Client

A financial adviser formerly from Darien has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing more than a million dollars from an elderly client, state prosecutors said. 

Robert N. Tricarico, 60, was sentenced to 41 months for stealing more than $1.1 million from his elderly victim by misappropriating checks and liquidating assets, the U.S. attorney's office said. 

Tricarico is a registered securities broker who has worked for RNT Wealth Management, Northstar Wealth Partners, LPL Financial and Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network. 

Prosecutors said Tricarico would write numberous checks to himself or for his benefit without the victim's authorization and misappropriated checks made payable to the elderly client. 

On one occasion, Tricarico liquidated the client's entire coin collection.

In addition to the elderly victim, Tricarico defrauded two other people for $20,000 by promising them to use the funds to invest in a business venture that would produce a rate of return, the prosecutors said. 

The judge ordered Tricarico to pay $1,220,763 in restitution.

Tricarico, who was released on bond, was taken into custody on Wednesday.
