Deadline Extended to Say “Play Ball” in Torrington

Extra innings to sell season ticket packages in effort to bring baseball back to the city

They’re still hoping to yell “play ball” in Torrington.

The Republican-American is reporting that the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) has extended the deadline to sign 900 people to season ticket packages.

"Our Baseball Haven", the group which has been trying to bring baseball to Torrington, now has until October 18 to get 900 people to open their wallets and sign up for season ticket packages. Memberships include season tickets and a vote on important questions such as uniform choices and a team name.

Right now, organizers are hoping for $10 down payments on the $100 packages. So far, just under 300 people have signed up.

The Milford-based company is hoping to bring a team back to replace the Torrington Twisters who left the city for New Bedford, Massachusetts

The NEBCL recruits players attending U.S. colleges from New England and across the country. The summer league begins its season in early June and plays an 8-week, 42-game schedule.

The league currently has 12 teams, including two in Connecticut: The Manchester Silkworms and Danbury Westerners.
