Deadly Crash Closes Route 6 for Hours

When Bristol Police, Fire, and EMS arrived at the wreck, three teenagers were already outside a crashed Chevy Suburban.

But the adult driver remained trapped inside.

All four were traveling west on Route 6 in Bristol just before 2 o'clock Sunday morning, when the driver lost control.  As the truck approached Hungerford Alley, it veered across the yellow line, smashed into a utility pole, rolled, hit a second pole, and finally came to a stop on its roof.

The teens were fortunate enough to be able to get out on their own.  But firefighters had to extricate the driver and his injuries were just too serious.  40 year old Walter Madore of Bristol was pronounced dead on the scene.

As of Sunday afternoon, police would not name the young passengers or disclose their relationships to the driver.  All three were treated for minor injuries.

Route 6 was closed between North Main Street and Maple Street for at least twelve hours Sunday.  Crews fixed the utility poles as investigators tried to figure out why Madore lost control of the vehicle.

Bristol Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call Officer Kozaryn at 860-584-3036.
