Dipping Into Donation Box Leads to Charges, Again: Cops

Man taketh and cops taketh him away after cash disappears from a church, cops say, and the man’s accused of dipping into the donation box before.

An employee of Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on West Main Street in Meriden spotted David Lavigne, 46, of Meriden, hanging around the church with dipping his hand in the donation box, police said.

Lavigne’s not allowed inside the church because he was accused of stealing from the donation box last year, the employee told police.

Lavigne, who is divorced and unemployed, pleaded guilty to larceny and trespassing charges in February 2009, according to court records.

He was arrested on Wednesday, held on $45,000 and charged with trespassing. He is due in court in Waterbury on March 29.
