Director Stole Dog Vest Funds: Police

A Manchester man is accused of taking $2,000.

Manchester police have arrested the executive director of a non-profit organization that provides protective vests for police dogs.

Mark Moran, 41, of Manchester, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with larceny in the third-degree after an investigation into “Connecticut Vest A Dog.”

Moran is accused of taking $2,089 that the Sports and Medical Science Academy Magnet School and a local breeder donated to outfit several police K9s with ballistic vests and then never delivering the vests.

According to the Connecticut Vest A Dog Web site, “Connecticut Vest A Dog is a non-profit organization run by volunteers dedicated to raising the awareness of the dangers that police dogs face and to raise money to provide every Connecticut law enforcement canine with protective vests.”

Moran was released on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in GA12 on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m.

The Waterbury Republican-American reports that Moran is a Waterbury firefighter and was arrested outside city hall after a “pre-disciplinary hearing related to his paid leave from the fire department.”
