Doctor Accused of Assault Due in Court

A patient said the doctor assaulted her in his exam room.

Edwin Njoku, the East Hartford doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient in his exam room, will be in court for another appearance on Thursday.

Dr. Njoku's career has been on the line ever since a now former patient came forward, claiming Njoku sexually assaulted her in the exam room, then tried to bribe her after she turned him into police.

“They have taken away my livelihood.  I’m struggling and I’m going to fight, and I know the entire allegations are false,” Njoku told NBC Connecticut.

No decision has yet been made on the status of his license.

Police said after the alleged attack, the woman got checked at the hospital. That’s where Njoku’s DNA was supposedly found on her body.

“I have always maintained an excellent perfect code of conduct as far as my profession is concerned,” said Njoku. The doctor added, it’s possible the now former patient made the allegations because she’s after his money. “It's difficult for me to speculate on what the motivations are but it's pretty obvious,” Njoku said.

That former patient, Anolan Drago, who gave NBC Connecticut permission to identify her, admitted she filed a lawsuit against Njoku, and his clinic over the allege’d attack, but claimed money isn't her motivator.

“A doctor isn't supposed to have sex with a patient. It's the same as a teacher, you're not supposed to have sex with a student,” Drago said.

She wants him held accountable for what supposedly happened.  On Friday, she also faced the medical board to give her side of the story, and stood just feet away from her alleged attacker.

“I want to see his license be taken away,” Drago added.  The former patient fears Njoku is a danger to all women patients. The medical board is still trying to figure this out.  Until then, Njoku’s license has been temporarily suspended.  A final decision will be made in the next few weeks.
