Doctor, Nurse Help Teen Pinned Under Car

A 16-year-old student is in the hospital rather than the classroom after his leg was pinned under a car in Hartford on Monday morning.

The Classical Magnet School student was on his way to school just before 7 a.m., when he was hit on Woodlawn Street, police said. Police said they are not sure if anyone is at fault.

Sgt. Richard Holten, of the Hartford Police Department, said it was a low-impact collision and “the young man sort of got pinned under the car” and the driver called 911.

A doctor and nurse were driving in the area and went to the teen’s side to help. There is some concern about spinal injury, so they worked to keep him still.

The car had to be lifted  off the student and, officials said.

Parents say this is a busy intersection and that while there is a pedestrian walk signal, drivers are allowed to make a right turn on red.
