Documents: Newtown Parents Intend to Sue

Many of the parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting noted they intended to file wrongful death lawsuits, according to a court clerk, but the documents do not say whom the suits would target.

The parents of half the children killed in the 2012 Newtown school shooting intend to file wrongful death lawsuits.

Probate court records show that parents of 10 of the 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School have created estates for the children.

Estates are required to file such lawsuits, and a court clerk says most of the parents checked a box on the forms saying they intend to file wrongful death actions. The documents do not say whom the suits would target.

The Hartford Courant first reported the filings. Eight of the filings were made this month, another was filed in 2012 and the 10th last year.

Sunday is the second anniversary of the shooting. The statute of limitations for most civil lawsuits is two years.

Messages were left Tuesday with several of the families.
