Ginger the Dog Goes After Gunman and Wins

Ginger might not look ferocious, but don't underestimate her.

She's a crime-fighting machine and Clinton police are giving this mixed-breed pup credit for stopping an armed robbery at Glenwood Wine and Spirits in Clinton on Friday night.

Just before 8 p.m. on Friday, a man wearing a ski mask and dark clothing walked into the Glenwood Package Store on Killingworth Turnpike and aimed a gun at the clerk, police said.

But that did not scare Ginger, who began growling and ran toward the suspect. Ginger apparently scared the masked man, who ran off.

"You'd think that being chased out the door by a dog when you're carrying a gun would be embarrassing to the guy," said Dan Cewe, owner of Glenwood Wine and Spirits.

Ginger's 6 years old and she's never reacted like this before when someone's come in the store.

"Maybe it was an odor," Cewe said.
