A driver accused of slamming his car into a Waterbury convenience store and hitting a female customer on Monday night has been arrested, according to police.
Police said Dowdell Kennedy Fitzgerald's black 1999 Ford explorer car went right through the front doors of the 7-Eleven on Cooke Street just after 9:30 p.m. on Monday, injuring the female customer and causing extensive damage to the store.
Police said Fitzgerald, 31, of Waterbury, driver ran and they caught the person about a block away.
Fitzgerald was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, evading responsibility and operating under the influence.
