Driver Charged in Fatal Stamford Crash

A Stamford man faces a manslaughter charge in a fatal crash last month.

Police said 20-year-old Kadeem Mitchell was driving a 2006 DMV 525i on Washington Boulevard on Nov. 22 when he lost control of the car and hit a tree on the side of the road.

Mitchell and his passenger, 19-year-old Donte Smith, both had to be extricated and were rushed to Stamford Hospital. Smith died of his injuries.

Police said Mitchell was speeding before the crash. When he was released from the hospital Saturday he was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Mitchell was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 29.
