Driver Seriously Injured After Striking Tree in Voluntown

A 36-year-old North Grosvenordale man was badly injured when he he a tree in Voluntown early Saturday morning, police said. 

Raymond Durand was negotiating a slight left curve on Pendleton Hill Road just before 3 a.m. when he went into the shoulder and then off the road and into a tree, police said. 

The car sustained disabling damage to the entire front and passenger side of the vehicle, police said.

Durand was transported to William W. Backus Hospital with serious injuries but his condition is unknown.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and police are investigating.
