Large Water Main Break Snags Traffic for Hours in West Hartford

A large water main break near an entrance to Interstate 84 snagged traffic in West Hartford for hours Thursday.

West Hartford Police asked people to avoid the intersection of Interstate 84 and Park Road because of a break in a 12-inch water main. Another smaller service line break was also detected in the area, further complicating repairs.

The main was shut down at 12:40 p.m. and two homes on Park Road, near the intersection of Raymond Road, were affected by the shutdown. The water has since been restored.

The large water main break was repaired by Thursday evening, but crews continued to work on the service line break as of 6 p.m.
