Dump Truck Rolls into Bantam Lake

A dump truck driver got a scare in Bantam on Monday morning when the brakes went and the trucked rolled into Bantam Lake.

The truck was picking up a trash bin from a home  around 7:30 a.m. and it rolled backward and into the lake, where it was almost completely submerged.

Police believe the driver failed to use the parking brake.

About 10 gallons of oil and 10 gallons of antifreeze spilled from the truck, officials said.

"I heard the huge crash and then a bunch of speaking, loud voices and found the truck in the water," John Scanlon said.

DEP officials said the spill was minor.

No injuries were reported. Some damage was done to a driveway and a wall.
