Families Welcome New Year's Babies

It is a happy New Year for an East Hartford couple who welcomed their first child at 12:04 a.m. and a New Haven family who welcomed their son one minute later.

Shaquaina Stephens' daughter, Dior, was born in Hartford Hospital at 12:04 a.m. and 21 seconds.
Dior is the couple's first child.

She was 6 pounds, 14 ounces and 21 inches long.

Shaquaina said she prayed to have her little girl on New Year's Day, and is thrilled all her prayers were answered.

Mom’s New Year's resolution is to be the best mother she can be.

The first baby born at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital arrived at 12:05 a.m.

Kyrie is the son of Brian and Tonya Rivera of New Haven and weighed in at 5 pounds, 10 ounces.
