Insanity Defense Weighed for Mom Charged With Killing Kids

Attorneys for a Connecticut woman charged with killing her two children by poisoning them with antihistamines say they are considering an insanity defense.

LeRoya Moore appeared on Monday in New Haven Superior Court. Public defender Scott Jones said the defense is waiting to receive documents including police reports before deciding on a strategy.

Moore is detained on $2 million bail on murder and other charges in the deaths of 7-year-old Daaron Moore and 6-year-old Aleisha Moore. Their bodies were found in their home June 2. Authorities ruled they died of an antihistamine overdose.

Police said the 36-year-old mother wrote in a note found near her children's bodies that said they were meant to die that day and she was sending them to heaven. The note also said Daaron and Aleisha had ice cream and ate their favorite things before they died.

Police said the home had been filled with natural gas and LeRoya Moore had several injuries to her arms that were consistent with a suicide attempt.
