East Lyme Police Investigate Threat Posted Online

East Lyme police, state police and the FBI are investigating an anonymous posted threat of violence against the town, according to town officials.

The threat posted on social media site YikYak said, "East Lyme better get ready for the hail of bullets. I've been bullied too long and after break I'm going to let all my anger out."

East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica says the threat discovered early on the day of Christmas Eve is being taken “very seriously."

"It just shows you what happens in the world today," Formica said. "No one is immune from these types of things.

No specific target or town building was mentioned in the threat.

"We've been on this since it was posted," he said.

East Lyme students return to school next Monday and Formica has already been fielding calls from concerned parents.

"We certainly will have an increased security presence at the school on Monday and if there are any activities occurring at the schools we'll keep an eye on those," Formica said.

Officials have not determined whether the threat specifically targets a particular town building or department or whether extra security is needed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police ask anyone with information to call the East Lyme Department at 860-739-5900.
