Student Threat to Ex-Boyfriend Prompted Enfield High Lockdown

No weapons were found and the lockdown was lifted.

Enfield High School went into lockdown Friday morning after a 16-year-old girl who broke up with her boyfriend texted the boy and said she was going to kill him and another student was going to help, police said.

The lockdown prompted panic for students and staff as faculty looked for the students involved, but police said no weapons were found in the school.

According to police, the teenage girl was suicidal and sent the text this morning. The student who received it told school staff, who put the school on lockdown because they could not immediately find the girl or the other boy.

Students said they were told to get into rooms, like the cafeteria, and lock doors until the lockdown was lifted around 7:15 a.m.

“My buddy was locked up in the band room and it was all dark and they were hiding, but the lunch room was all scattered,” Dylan Smith, of Enfield, said. “And we didn’t know what was going on. That’s why I’m leaving. I’m pretty stressed out.”

The female student was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation. Police are reviewing the incident to determine if charges will be filed.
