Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Murder in Killing of Teen

17-year-old Kathryn Mauke was a senior in high school in Springfield, Mass.

Twenty-year-old Nickolas Lacrosse of Springfield, Massachusetts, was ushered into Springfield District Court this afternoon, charged with one count of murder.

He is accused by police of killing his ex-girlfriend, 17-year-old Kathryn Mauke, an excelling senior at the Sabis International Charter School in Springfield.

"He was a jilted person," said Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney. "He was distraught over that."

Police calling it a tragic situation.

"She had broken up with him, she had called out sick, or she was sick yesterday from school," said Delaney. "That led to her death because the ex-boyfriend knew she was there."

Police say a relative called 911 after finding Mauke bleeding on the kitchen floor of their house on Prentice Street, suffering from stab wounds. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.

At the Sabis school Thursday, grief councilors were on hand for someone they described as a beloved student with a bright future.

Police say the same.

"Model Congress student, honor student, very well-thought of, a tragedy, to say the least," said Delaney. "Domestic violence at its worst."

Police now hope this tragedy will serve as a reminder.

Sadly, in this case, police say there was no history of domestic abuse, and Lacrosse has no criminal record with them.

Police say there was no signs of breaking and entering into the victim's house. Lacrosse remains behind bars, held without bail.
