Ex-Police Captain Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Charge

David Bourque was arrested in April.

A former Granby police captain charged with possession of thousands of images of child pornography waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to one count of distribution of child porn.

David Bourque was arrested in April after federal authorities said they found thousands of child pornography images and videos on his personal computer.

Prosecutors said Bourque received and distributed more than 320,000 images -- 22,282 images and 4,084 videos. They also said they found “sadistic" images. Most were of boys between the ages of 8 and 14 engaging in sex acts with adults, but some children appeared to be as young as 1 to 3 years old.

Bourque said he only looked at 600 of them.

Bourque, who has been under the care of psychiatrist, took full responsibility and said in court that he regrets his conduct.

Bourque’s attorney said his client wants to avoid trial and his biggest concern is his family.

Until sentencing, Bourque will be required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and will be subject to random drug tests.

Any devices Bourque uses that access the Internet will be equipped with monitoring software, which Bourque will pay for, according to conditions of supervised release. He will also have to register as a sex offender and will not be able to loiter around playgrounds, schools, arcades or other places where children under the age of 18 gather.

Bourque is free on $150,000 bail and could face up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 1.

He also faces a marijuana possession charge in state court.
