Explosion Leads to Fire at Fairfield House: Residents

Officials are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home in Fairfield that happened on Saturday.

Residents say there was an explosion before the house on Half Mile Road caught fire.

When firefighters arrived, they say they were faced with an extensive fire that had already engulfed the rear of the house. They say smoke and fire could be seen towering over the home from across the street.

While some firefighters stretched hose lines to control the fire, others used hand tools to access concealed burning areas and removed toxic and cancerous smoke from the house with powerful fans.

Everyone inside of the house was able to safely evacuate and call first responders. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters reported.

Investigators estimate the money save from the fire to be approximately $350,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
